Wix is a solid DIY website builder. But in order to stay solid, website platforms must update frequently. Earlier this month (October 2015), Wix unveiled an update that adds several new features, making it possible to design websites that feel much more modern with videos and scrolling effects. Here’s what’s changed—for the better—on Wix.
Video Backgrounds
Video backgrounds now allow users to turn their website header into a full-screen video. That’s an attractive, modern feature that instantly gives a website the wow factor. Done right, the video background will play a loop of soundless video. It’s a good alternative to the overly common photo slideshow header that instantly makes a website stand out.
Parallax Scrolling
Parallax scrolling is a relatively new web design effect that differs from the traditional, static scrolling. Background images will move slower than the text, and it gives websites a more modern, interactive feel to them.
Strip Layouts
Strip layouts place important content in easily browsable lines. It’s a new layout addition that allows website owners to highlight their most important content. These strips can hold videos or photos too, and they can easily be manipulated within the drag and drop editor.
Long Scrolling Websites
Long scrolling websites, where content is arranged in one long page instead of multiple pages, is popular because it’s more suited for visitors using smartphones. Wix’s new features include options to pin or anchor a menu so that even at the bottom of that long page, readers still have access to the menu.
More Customization
More customization options are now available on Wix. Where before customization was still possible, now it’s easier to rearrange your layout, adjust colors and get a little more precise with your changes. There’s still a selection of pre-designed pages and sections, but now you can manipulate them a bit more to your liking. We give Wix a high rating for simplicity, and their new changes still aim to keep things easy. The platform is just as user-friendly as before, with an interface that doesn’t require lots of looking for the right option.
