Dear Users,
Late Thursday, 21 March 2019, our website, WebsiteBuilders.com, got hacked.
A WordPress plugin, called Social Warfare, was to blame. Although we were running the latest version, it contained a “zero-day” vulnerability (ie, a previously unknown security vulnerability).
This lead to many websites worldwide being hacked, including this one. None of our other websites are impacted.
We do not believe that any user data was accessed, but for a short period from 7.30pm UK time, our site was redirecting to a variety of unsavoury websites (for example: tech support scams).
We estimate that approximately 100 visitors will have been redirected, and would like to apologise if you were one of them.
Our team spotted the issue very quickly and reverted to backups. We have now retired the plugin across all sites, and will replace it.
You can read more about the wider incident here, and the technical details here.
